Taekwon-Do

Our Taekwon-Do program follows the guidelines set by the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) which was founded by General Choi Hong-Hi, the founder of Taekwon-Do, and currently headed by President Choi Jung-Hwa. Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art originally developed for the South Korean army in the mid-1940s by General Choi and many Korean martial arts pioneers at the time, including Colonel Nam Tae-Hi. Nicknamed the “Korean art of self-defense,” it focuses on empty hand combat and specialized in kicking techniques.

General Choi named the art Taekwon-Do using his knowledge of Chinese calligraphy, picking three Chinese characters.

Tae (跆), means to smash or destroy with the foot.

Kwon (拳), means to smash or destroy with the fist.

Do (道), means the way or the art.

We currently belong to the US-ITF which was founded by Grandmaster Robert Wheatley.
