System of Rank (Dan Geup Jedo)

Take a minute to wrThere are 5 colors (not including black) for our ranking system with intermediate ranks for each color. It starts from the 10th Grade (White Belt) all the way up to 1st Grade Black Belt Candidate (Sr. Red Belt):

  • White (10th and 9th Grade) - Signifies innocence, as that of a beginning student who has no previous knowledge of Taekwon-Do.

  • Yellow (8th and 7th Grade) - Signifies the Earth from which a plant sprouts and takes root as the Taekwon-Do foundation is being laid.

  • Green (6th and 5th Grade) - Signifies the plant’s growth as the Taekwon-Do skill begins to develop.

  • Blue (4th and 3rd Grade) - Signifies the Heaven (Sky), towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in the Taekwon-Do progresses.

  • Red (2nd and 1st Grade) - Signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the opponent to stay away.

  • Black (1st through 9th Degree) - Opposite of white, therefore signifying the maturity and proficiency in Taekwon-Do.
